The prospects of the frozen meat market .this year are exceedingly bright and the cessation of operations in New Zealand is therefore the more to be 'deplored. There is a shortage in Australia, which is supplying a fairly big order for Germany, and the Argentine is not as formidable a-rival as was expected. The prices of standard New Zealand meats are likelv to rule very high. Those companies that are killing under a. system of "free labour" are taking very big risks, for it is exceedingly improbable that, their output can be put upon the market, in such a mand ton prices. However, this is a matter for the farmers and the companies themselves. If they prefer to employ free labiur rather than pa> the extra sum demanded by elfuMenr, workers, the responsibility is their own.
