CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Recent Reporter). Monday. Mr George Burnett's body was brought in at five o'clock this evening. An inquest was held before Mr James, Coroner, and a verdict of accidental drowning was returned. The funeral will take place to-morrow. I understand that a medical practitioner is on his way out from Australia for the purposs of establishing a practice in Cartert.m. A social and dance is to be held at Dalefield on Wednesday evening. These events are very popular there. The secretary of the Ahiaruhe Sports Club informs me that all the arrangements are complete for the forthcoming sports meeting. The ladies' sewing guild of St. Mark's Church intend to meet shortly, for the purpose of making up material to be disposed of for the benefit of the church. Colonel Davis, Inspector-General of the Dominion Forces, will hold his annual inspection of the Wairarapa Volunteers at Carterton on Saturday next. Mr A. R. Wa.'lis, who had the contract for painting the Borough Council Chambers, completed the work this afternoon. The Bishop of the Wellington Diocese will hold a confirmation service in St. Mark's Church on the evening of Tuasday. February 16th.
