CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor). Sir, —On February 25th, at a large meeting of ladies ot Christchurch, the following resolution was passed: —"That a monster petition be presented to Parliament from the women voters of New Zealand for the restoration of State free immigration of single women suitable for domes'ic service." The editors of our local papers have been good enough to give us some help in the matter, and we should be much obliged if you would draw attention to the movement to give us what assistance you can. We feel that unless the matter is taken up warmly all over the Dominion, the petition to Parliament would have no weight.—l am. etc., M. CKACROFT VMLSON. Cashmere, Christchurch, February 27th.

THE NEXT BAND CONTEST

(To the Editor). Sir, —At the annual meeting of the North Island Brass Bands Association, held at Hastings, last week, the question of where the next contest should be held, and as to whether the A and B grade contests should not be separated, and held on different occasions came up for discussion Thtre was a strong feeling among the delegates in favour of such , a separation, a suggestion beng made that the "A" bands should compete one year and the "B" bands the next year. The Masterton contest was held in 1903, and seeing that it was such a great success, would it not be a good move for Masterton to apply to have one of the contests held in 1910 at Masterton? The executive of the Association have been given authority to deal with the matter, and all that would be necessary would be the depositing of a fee of £25 with the Association for the right to hold the contest and probably a guarantee fund for the prize money r< ould be desirable. Masterton would stand to benefit very considerably if the contest were again held here. As a member of the executive I would be only too pleased' to use my endeavours to have another contest here if an application from Masterton were received by the executive. I am, etc., F. W. G. McLEOD. ,
