PERSONAL.

The Hon. W. W. McCardle, M.L.C., was on a visit to Masterton yesterday. The friends of Mrs G. Chamberlain, of Upper Plain, will regret to hear that she is seriously ill. Mrs Elizabeth Trotter, a very old Wairarapa settler, died atWoodside, near Greytown, on Friday last. The deceased was 82 years of age. Messenger E. E-asthope, of the Masterton Telegraphic Staff, h«s been promoted to a cadetship in the Telephone Department, and will leave to take up a position on the Auckland Excharge to-iay. Mr Easthope, who is quite a young member of tha service, has shown great promise, and well merits his promotion.
