CO-OPERATIVE WORKERS.
AND THEIR PAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 4. The co-operative workers on the railway extension works at Domett have written at some length to the | Hon. R. MclCenzie on the subject of the delay in the payment of their wages. It alleges that they started work on October 6th, and that they have only received two pays between that date and the present. They cannot understand by what method of calculation the Minister arrives at the conclusion that monthly pays are being adhered to. They ask for compensation for the suspension of contracts between December 24th . and January sth, alleging that they were willing to work, but were'not allowed to do so. The letter is signed by fiftyfive men.
On Tuesday some of ths men applied for an advance of pay, but were refused, and in consequence Mr Campbell, President of the Union, sent the following telegram to Sir Joseph Ward.—"The co-operative workers at Domett not received any wages for seven weeks. Please Sir, would you dole us out a few shillings each and keep us alive."
