HOMING PIGEON RACE.

YOUNG BIRD MATCH.

The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club commenced the young bird races yesterday afternoon with a fly from the 3'immit (air-line distance 28i miles). The weatlier was hot and clear, but a fairly stiff breeze was blowing from the North, which had the effect of reducing the velocity aad at the same time acting as a useful test of the young birds' stamina. The first bird home did the distance in 54mins, a few seconds onlv separating several more competitors. Mr F. B. Rosson acted as judge, and the following is the result: — Mr A. Miller's "Telegram," velocity 932 yards per minute 1 Mr W. E. Bowling's "Brown Spec," 930 yards per minute 2 Mr J. Bradbury's "The Dowager," 928 yards per minute / 3 The winner takes Mr H. J. Moverley's troohy. Next Thursday a race will be flown from the Upper Hutt.
