HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
OF AUSTRALIA
LANG DEFEATS SQUIRES,
Australia's two most prominent heavy-weight hoxers met on Weclnerday in Sydney, to.dttormine ihe holder of the title,heavy-weight champion of Australia. The boxers were Squires and Lang, anci the convincing ground the Stadium, wherein Burns lost the title of champion of the world to Jack Johnson.
Squires has met Burns three times and suffered defeat each time. Lang was opposed to Burns in Melbourne on September'3ra last, a r d received his quietus in the sixth round. The meeting of the two Australians has been awaited with a great deal of interest, and the result is made known by a cable message received by Press Association, stating that Lang beat Squires in the seventeenth round.
Lang will now go to America to join jack John3on, the coloured champion having a good opinion of the lengthy Victorian's fistic ability.

The visit to New Zealand of Tommy Burns, the ex-champion boxer, which the Wellington Boxing Association was endeavouring to arrange, has been abandoned. There were several difficulties in the way, chief among them being the impossibility of obtaining suitable dates.
