THREATENING BEHAVIOUR.
A family dispute was in progre s near the Hotel Cecil, Wellington, on Tuesday afternoon, when in the midst of the Otifi of the particip9hts drew a revolver. Subsequently an arrest was made by the police. Yesterday at the Wel-
lington Police Court Augustus Bag- * garley was charged at the Wellington Police Court that in a public place, to wit, Sydney street, he did use threatening behaviour, whereby a breach of the peace may have been occasioned. Accused pleaded guilty. It appears, according to the statement of Sub-Inspector Phair, that there had been at Carterton sorce difference between accused and his wife. Mr 3 Baggarley accordingly came to Wellington. She was followed by accused. They, again met on Tuesday in Sydney btreet, when Mrs Baggarley was in company with her brother and sister. At tfye meeting of the two parties an argument ensued. Eventually accused's brother-in-law threatened to strike him, whereupon accused drew a revolver and challenged his brother-in-law that if he advanced nearer he would fire upon him. Later on, accused threat- i ened to do away with himself and < his wife. Mr Herdman, who appeared for accused, admitted that the information given by the sub-inspector was correct. His wife had threatened to take goods out of his house, and he bought the revolver for the purpose of intimidating her. When he drew the weapon upon his he had no intention of firing. His object was to restrain him, and the " action had the desired effect. Since the affair, the difference betwsen him and his wife had been settled, and they had intention of living quietly together. A conviction and a fine of 20s was imposed, and an orler was made that he be bound over in his own recognisance to keep the peace towards his brother-in-law for a period of six months. !
