CARTERTON NEWS.

A quiet, but pretty wedding was solemnised this afternoon at the residence of Mr A. J. Partridge, Belvedere Street, when his eldest daughter, Miss Louisa Partridge, was married to Mr John Lester, eldest son of Mr J. Lester, of Westport. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked handsome in a dress of creme silk, and wore a pale blue hat to match, and carried a shower bouquet She was attended by her two sisters —Misses Violet and Ada Partridge as bridesmaids. Each were dresses of white silk and delaine hats. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. J. Elliott, of the Methodist Church. After the ceremony a large number of friends sat down to the wedding breakfast, when tne usual toasts were duly honoured. Mr ai:d Mrs Lester, who received many useful presents, left by the afternoon express train en route for Westport, their future home.

A meeting of the teachers of St. Mr.rk's Sunday School was held last night in the Vicarage, the Rev. R. Young presiding. After paying all expenses, a credit balance of £1 was reported from the picnic. Votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs Lindop and Knutsen, M. Jones, J. H. Wakelin, and to all others who assisted the function.

The Rev. L.'. Thompson and Mrs Thompson' returned to Carterton last evening. Mr Thompson will resume, his duties on Sunday next. During January the services were conducted by the Rev. James Patterson, of Wellington. The Dalefield Methodist Sunday School will celebrate its anniversary on Sunday next. The Revs. W. J. Elliott and W. W. Avery will conduct the services.

Miss De Steyne, who has for some time been on the staff of the local branch of the W.F.C.A., left .this afternoon for Wellington. Prior to her departure, she was recipient of a handsome travelling trunk from her companions at the W.F.C.A., and two gold brooches from her fellow boarders at the residence of the Misses Gorman.

On account of the Clareville Tennis Club being unable to obtain a team for to-morrow, through harvesting operations, the rnat:h with Carterton has been postponed for a week. The following two rinks of the Carterton Bowling Club will piay two rinks from the Wellington Club here on FridayDr Johnston. Messrs Bsiliie, Bisn, and Roydhcuse; Messrs Fisher, Whyte, Phillpotts and McPhee.
