OPAKI-LANSDOWNE WATER SCHEME.

Mr G. Laing-Meason, C.E., attended the meeting of the Masterton County Council yesterday, and explained various matters in connection with the contract for the Opaki-Lansdowne water scheme. Three property holders (Messrs Pierce Cotter, William Henson and F. Dorset) had lodged objections to the scheme, but Mr Laing-Meason stated that certain alterations had been made which had caused these objections to be withdrawn. The contract price for the culvert work was tco high, in the Engineer's opinion, and he recommended day labour being employed, and that Mr W. Langdon, of Nelson, bo engaged to supervise the whole works. He also recommended that a section of Mr Wilton's property be excluded from the rating area, as it was not benefited. Mr Laing-Meason advised the procuring from Home of the pumping apparatus for the high pressure scheme. The Council adopted all the Engineer's recommendations.
