WAIRARAPA DISTRICT HOSPITAL BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board was held in the County Council Chambers at Master ton yesterday morning. Messrs E. G. Eton, W. F. W. Kummer, W. Moore, R. F. R. Beetham, J. Colquhoun, T. Moss,[W. J.Welch and W. Fisher were present. The secretary (Mr F. G. Moore) called nominations for the position of Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Eton, the retiring Chairman, was, on the motion of Mr Moore, unanimously re-elected to the. position. Mr Eton briefly returned thanks for his re-election. The treasurer presented a report of receipts and expenditure since April Ist last, which showed receipts to amount to £3,030 12s 7d and expenditure to £2,962 12s, leaving a credit balance of £6B os„7d. The ordinary maintenance account showed a debit balance of £505 is 9d, and the infectious diseases account a credit balance of £573 Is lid, leaving a credit balance on the two of £6B 0s 7d The statement of assets and liabilities showed a balance in favour of liabilities of £721 14s 6d on the ordinary maintenance account, and a surplus of assets amounting to £3lO 14s 8d on the infectious diseases account.

Mr Moore explained that the heavy deficiency of £776 10s in the statement of assets and liabilities on the ordinary maintenance account was due to the Special Commission not approving of the large reductions made by the Board in the Masterton Hospital estimates for the current year, and there was therefore that amount unprovided for ,by the Board. The report was adopted. The South Wairarapa Hospital Trustees wrote protesting against the Board making the grant for £SOO for new buildings at the Greytown Hospital conditional upon £I,OOO being first raised by subscriptions, and the £2,000 being made available by the Board. The Trustees stated that they understood that the money was to be given unconditionally, although no difficulty was anticipated in raising the £I,OOO by subscriptions.—No action was taken by the Board.

The Masterton Hospital Trustees wrote asking the Board to make arrangements whereby the Trustees might obtain a bank overdraft of £2OO, pending payment of the Trustees' estimates, .which had been disputed but eventually adjusted by a special commission. Mr Moss moved that the necessary permission for an overdraft be given, not exceeding £2OO, on the understanding that all liability in connection therewith is settled by the Trustees out of ordinary allocation.— Carried.

The secretary was instructed to pay the amount due to the Masterton Hospital, £776 10s, an amount deducted from the Trustees' esti mates by the Board, but authorised by £he special commission, which recently sat to consider the matter. It was decided to hold the statutory meeting to consider next year's estimates on March 31st, 1909, at 10.30 a.m.
