INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL.
DEPUTATION TO THE MINISTER. On Saturday, Messrs E. U. Eton and P. G. Moore, uhairmau and secretary, respectively, of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board, waited on the Minister in charge of Hospitals, Hon. George Fowlds, for the purpose of bringing under his notice, a difflioulty under wbioh the board is labouring at present. Under the provisions of Seotion 4 of the Public Health Amendment Act, 1903, the duty of providing and maintaining hospitals for the reception and treatment of infectious diseases was transferred fiom local authorities to District Hospital Boards. The assistant Chief Health Officer had certified to the neoessity for erecting infectious diseases hospitals in Greytown, Masterton and Pabiatua. Except for a slight variation in the oircuni' stances as they affect Greytown, the proposal made in eaoh case is that the board shall erect the infectious diseases hospitals on the loan held in trust by the separate institutions, The suggestion put forward by the controlling board (as it had no legal' authority) was that an amendment should be made in the law imposing the duty of providiug and maintaining institutions, for thereoeption of infectious oases on the separate institutions. The Minister, Id reply, stated that in the BUI introduced last seesion provision had been made to meet oases of this kind. He promised that the necessary legislation to the effect wbat the deputation desired would be introduced nest session.
