A MANIAC FIGHTS TWO FIREMEN

Two Norwood firemen; had a des■perate struggle with n mauiao recently. A fire broke out iu a house in bolgtava Koad, Norwuod, and when the brigade arrived there a man named Walter Pilkington, a lodger, was seeu near a bedroom window. Firemen Palmer and Knight attempted t"> enter tne room, but they were driven back by the smoke. lhrough a broken pauel of the'door they saw Fitkington cnunhed on the burning bed. Palmer, who is a slim man, crept through the panel, and entered the room, whereupon ; Pilkirigtou attacked him, and a desperate dtrusßle •ensued. Knight went to his comrade's assistance, and eventually Pilkington, who was foaming at the mopth, and severely burned, was -dragged through the aperture of the door. He was removed hy the police to the infirmary and eventually certified as suffering from delirium tremens. Both firemen were slightly burned.
