WELLINGTON, November 23. l)r Findlay was sworn-in, to-night at 6.45 o'olook, as a member of tbe Legislative Council and as AttorneyGeneral and Colonial Seoretary. The position as a member of the Executive in tbe Legislative Council carries with it tbe leadership of that Chamber. Sir Joseph Ward has undertaken the portfolio of Minister of Defence. resigned the charge of the Department of Industries and Commerce, whioh has been allotted to the Hon. J. McGowan.

AUCKLAND, November 23. Mr Geo. Ballari, who is contesting tho Manakau seat in the Government interest, addressed a meeting of eleciors at. Otahuhu, to-night, and received a vote of thanks and confidence. He annouuued himself a supporter of the Government's land proposals.
