DARING BANK ROBBERY. LARGE AMOUNT STOLEN. MANAGER BOUND AND GAGGED. Received November 21, 9.25 a.m. PERTH, November 21. Yesterday afternoon Mr Jago, manager of the Daydawn branch of Australian Bank, was found bound behind the counter of the bank. He stated that o'clock two disguised armed men entered the bank, and asked for change for a note. On turning round to give obange he found himself covered with a revolver The men bound and gagged him, took bis keys, rifled the safe, and decamped. The manager was the only person on tbe premises. By great exertion be succeeded in getting rid of the gag, and bis cries attracted help. The bank authorities refuse to disclose the amount missing. P, is believed to be nineteen hundred pounds. Yesterday was pay-day at the mines, and a busy day at the bank. Surprise is expressed that the robbers were not interrupted. Ihe police are investigating tbe matter, and have made one arrrst. DANYSZ RABBIT EXPERIMENTS. SICKNESS ON BROUGHTQN ISLAND. 1 Received November 21, 9.52 p.m. SYDNEY, November 21. It is reported from Newcastle that a message was received there to-day asking that medical assistance be at once sent to Broaghton Island, were it is reported sickness has broken out amongst the staff con - ducting tbe Danysz rabbit virus experiments. No information is forthcoming as to the nature of the illness or the number of sufferers, excepting that Dr Danysz himself is ill. Tbe message was repeated several times from the ißland in quick succession, and the Government steamer, with doctors, st-etchers and medical outfit, was immediately despatched to the island. Dr Asbburton, questioned on tbe matter, said that all be knew was that Dr Danysz had telegraphed to him stating that be was siok, and asking that a doctor be sent at once. He had no idea of tbe nature of tbe ailment, but he was perfectly certain- that it was not due to contact with the virns. He concluded that tbe sickness was due to the water or food or some ouuumstance outside the conduct of tbe experiments.
