MASTERTON TROTTING CLUB.

MEETING OF STEWARDS

A meeting of the Stewards of the Masterton Trotting Olub was held on Saturday evening. Mr W. D. Wstson presided, and there were fifteen others present. Mr J. 11. Pollock wrote declining the position of handioapper to the club at the fee whiob had been previously allowed. The notion of the President and Seorotary ;n appoint ing Mr Ulio Shannon as handioapper was confirmed. A letter was received from the Masterton A. and P. Association stating the terms under which the Showgrounds could be used for the purposes of training and for'the trotting meeting on November 15th. Mr A. Oometti wrote agreeing to act as starter and provide a starting cloak for the approaching meeting. In connection with the forthcoming meeting it was decided to engage Mr J, Ames to work the totalisator en the same terms as last meeting;to engage Mr Keihona Boyes' string band; to submit the publioau's booth and refreshment booth for sale by public auction. The following officials were appointed for the meeting next month: Horses in and out, Messrs J. Cress and A. Snodgrass; lap stewards, Messrs W. Whittaker, T. W. Millar, W. Ooooer and W. lorns; starter's assistants, Messrs F. E. Dorsett;, F. Buiok, A. Snodgrass and W. H. Buick; timekeeper, and assistant starter, Mr F. Hill; patrols, Messrs J. O'Neill, 0. A. Pownall, W. Whittaker, JR. -/. Hodgine, D. MoNair, J. O'Meara, J. Cress, W. J. Fly, and W. Morris. A discussion took place on the question of allowing bookmakers on the course at the meeting. A motion proposed by Mr A. Snodgrass, seconded by Mr G. H. Yates, "that bookmakers and tneir clerks be excluded from tho course at the coming meeting," was lost, qnd an proposed by-.Mr W. Whittaker, seconded by Mr W. Morris, "that bookmakers and their agents be allowed on the course but not allowed to bet at the coming meeting," was carried. Mr Snodgrass gave notice that he would move at the noxt* meeting of the '.Stewards that the foregoiug resolution be rescinded, and that bookmakers and their agents bo not allowed on the ground at the coming meeting. The Secretary was instructed to advertise thut ladies will be admitted free to the trotting meeting on Novemb)f 15th 'lhe matter of having the course rolled was left in the hands of Mr J. Dixon.
