ANTI-NATIONALISM.
SPEECH BY LORD MILNER. Receivdd September 30, 4.22 p.m. LONDON, September 29. A deputation, beaded by Sir Lewis 1 Mitobell, presented Lord Milner with an address signed by 25,000 people residing in Cape Colony, expressing appreciation of his services for South Africa and the Empire. Lord Milner, fin thanking the deputation, declared that the danger which in South Africa impeded the great aim of the gradual fusion of the whites into one nation as a permaneat member of the Empire was disunion over minor looal personal questions. There was a greater danger in the Motherland on account of the spirit of anti-nationalism. Tnere were so many peoplo, whenever the country's interests were anywhere at stake, who feel impelled by to uide against her. "Only Natal's great skill and promptitude in suppressing the 1 recent rebellion," said Lord Milner, "saved us from a pro-Zulu agitation." It is tho same spirit that, fearing Britain's power might be unjustly used is striving to keep the country weak, thereby exposing the Empire to tbe rapacity of the world. Antinationalism is a great and growing faotor, but once the danger is realised there will, be a tremendous rally both in England and in the 1 colonies. Britishers will never let their inheritage be thrown away by anti-nationalism fanatins. Tbe Times, commenting on the speech, says that tho maiu body of the nation would be unaffected by anti-nationalism in the time of a crisis, arid would rally and stand 'together with the sister nations across the sea. The Daily Telegraph expects a tremendous rally when pernicious anti-nationaism is pushed too fur. Meanwhile the mischief has been dune, and will only be eradicated at a tremendous cost.
