WAIRARAPA v. MANAWATU,
A WIN FOR MANAWATU.
The Wairarapa Bnd Manawatu representative teams met on the Sohoolground, yesterday. The ground was in a fairly good condition. Only five of the Manawatu team that had played against Auckland on the previous day took the field, the remainder, being unaHe to get away. The game was fairly evenly contested all through, the visitors especially their forward division showing perhaps the Hest form. The teams were as follow: Wairarapa.—Goaf! keeper, J. Fisher; full-hacks, Thynne and Feist; halves, Fairbrother, Donald and Hooper; forwards, Frederiokson, Williams, W. Fisher, Rue and Bunny. Manawatu.—Full-backs, Tucker, Walkley, Cameron; halves, Tait, H. Sorensen, and Stephenson; forwards, A. Sorensen, Goff, amos, Lewis and Eraser. Almost as soon as the game commenced the visitors attacked, and in a very short time they had a goal to their cedit scored u y Amos. On the bully-off Manawatu again attacked, hut Thynne and Donald were prominent in relieving. Williams and Frederiokson carried play along the wing. The former, from a free hit, put the hall into the circle, and from a scrimmage in ' front of the posts Wairarapa scored a goal, the hall ocming off the legs of a Manawatu player. Manawatu rushed the ball down, Eraser putting in good work. Feist relieved, and Manawatu were placed on the defence. The visiting baokjline was a • good one, and shifted play into the home territory. Bunny, made a good run along the wing, and for a time the Manawatu baoks were kept busy. However, the visitors transferred play to the borne teams' circle, and Amos bad another shot at goal, but was unsuccessful. From a bnlly Wairarapa forced the ball up the field, but again the Manawatu baoks carried the ball into the oirole, where Fraser scored a beautiful goal for Manawatu. Shortly before the spell ended, Williams made a good run along the wing. The second spell.was productive of better hotkey than the first, and the visitors showed better form. Their forward passes were a treat to witness, and in that department they completely excelled Wairarapa. A feature oithe spell was the magnificent play of Fraser and A. Sorensen for the visitors. Sorensen scored Manawatu's third goal. Towards tne end of the game Williams scored another goal for Wairarapa, as the result cf a good run. The final scores were— Manawatu ... 3 Wairarapa ... 2 Tne pick of the visitors were Fraser, A Sorensfn and Amoa. Thynne. Donald, Williams, Fredriokson, W Fishher and Rue played well for Wairarapa* Mr F. Richards was referee, and gave every satisfaction.
Auckland teat Wauganai/yesterday, by 2 goals to nil.
The Wairarapa Ladies' .association Senior and Junior teams, aeleoted to play against Wellington on Auguat 25tb, played a match in Fraser'a paddook, yesterday, and the result was a win for the Senior team by four goals to one goal. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Ladies 1 Hookey Association, yesterday, Miss E. Hooper and ftliss L. Barker were elected respectively captains of the senior and junior representative teams that are to play Wellington on August 25th. It was decided that the teams should leave Masterton for Wellington on Friday afternoon, August 24th, and return on the following Saturday evening.
