Prior to The race for the Worthing Pinto at the Brighton Meeting the horse Marigold IV., collided with the filly Centre, ungating her jockey, H. 0. Madden. Marigold then savagely attacked the fallen man, biting him badly on the face and neck. Madden, who had the mount on Centre, states that Marigold suddenly reared, caught him by the neck, and pulled him off the saddle, and then knelt over him, biting him savagely. Another jockey states that Marigold kept picking up Madden and shaking him like a rat.
