A Wellington telegram states that the following have passed the Dental examinations, held by the Wellington Board:-—T. 0. Howard, Auckland: H. W. Rait, Wellington: G. Farmer, Palmerston North; U. Q. Lysnar, Auckland; G. Tattoo, Nelson; R. J. Dunn, Wanganui; L. D. Fruharf, Wellington: Ed Davies, Wanganui ; 0. N. Tanlin, Palmerston North; G. G Taylor, Cnristohurob; K. P. Petrie, Greymouth; A. J. Kflid, Auckland; L. P. Davies, Karori; W. P. Cook, Blenheim; P. W. 8. Male, Wellington; L. Sheriff, Giaborne. An uproar was created at a Liberal meeting held at Northampton. Woman suffragists from the balcony of the meeting hall waved flags, and shouted, "Votes for women !" After a violent souffle they were ejected. Mr Asquith, Chancellor of the Exchequer, then stated that he feared tbe Government' woald be compelled to drop for tbe present ,the second part of the Education Bill, though it was urgently needed in the Interests of - secondary schools. The' police prevented the women suffragists from mobbing Mr Asquith when he was leaving the building. Artisans employed on co-operative works throughout the colony during laat month numbered 224, and labourers 8.112. The Department of Bonds employed 3,249 labourers, and the remainder of the men served under the Public Works Department. The North Island Mtuo Trunk railway works absorbed 86 artisans and 2,028 labourers, and tbe various sections of tbe Midland railway works had 25 artisans and 772 labourers engaged upon them. There were 248 men on tho Otago Central railway works, 274 on the BlenheimWaipara line, and 75 on tbe West-port-Inangahua works. A very alarming incident occurred at Nelson the other day at the residence of a well-known citizen. Some coal was being used in a grate, and a child was playing before tbe bars, when there was a loud explosion and tbe glowing oinders were scattered in all directions. At the same time something was heard to strike the bars of tbe grate. Investigation disclosed the partly-flattened remains of a .303 cartridge, which had somebow got among the coal, and thus found its billet. Fortunately the bar of the grate was struck when tbe explosion occurred, otherwise the bullet might have killed the child.
Andersen's restaurant in Hautapa Street. Taihape, was the scene of a violent commotion on Monday nigbt, says an exchange, when, as the result of whisky and altercation, two men practically took charge, threatening 'to murder the proprietor, and on being unable to enter the house, smashed every window in the establishment, which was praotioaly m a state of Biege. The attack lasted from about half-past eleven till well past midnight, when, content with the damage done the offenders made off on the polioe being sent for. not, however, till one had been struck on the head by Mr Andresen, in selfdefence, with an iron kettle; necessitating bis visiting the iooal surgery and having seven stitches inserted in the wound, and a pieoe of shattered bone removed.
