CHINESE ON THE RAND. ' Received May 28, 9.2 p.m. CAPETOWN, May 28. Lord Selbourne visited the compounds at Glen Deep, Jumpers' Deep, and Simmer Mines, and inspected eight thousand coolies. He elicited from the boss of tbe "boys" that the white officials treated them fairly. They were comfortable, and earned more than was possible in China. They fully understood the repatriation notice. Lord Selbourne took occasion to express his anger at the marauders' outrages. He would severely punish the guilty. Some of the ooulies at Jumper's Deep petitioned Lord Selbourne, saying that they did not want repatriation. If they were repatriated, they wanted the balance of three years' wages. Lord Selbourne replied that the Government did not want to compel repatriation, but they must assist to prevent outrages.
