HEARTS OF OAK BENEFIT SOCIETY.

Received May 28, 9.2 p.m. LONDON. May 28. King Edward, accompanied by Queen Alexandra, opened the central offices of tho Hearts of Oak Benefit Society iu Saint Pancras. The newspapers state that it is not the first occasion on whioh the work of the friendly societies has been recognised so directly by a Sovereign. In response to an address by Mr J. D. Sim, Chief Registrar of friendly Soaietiee, King Edward warmly sympathised with the voluntary efforts towards thrift, and rejoiced at tbe splendid success achieved. The progress of the societies was one of the clearest indications of the prosperity of the people.
