Messrs H. J. Bettamy and R William have just negotiated the Wanganui river trip, from Taumarunui downward, in a flat-bottomed boat 15ft long. The journey of 144 miles was covered in 32 hours. Mr Battainy is one of a crew of three who sailed from Auckland to Sydney in the 10ft yaoht Eawhiti. A cablegram from Sydney states that the half-yearly report of the Colonial Sugar Company shows a profit, after nroviding interest and all other claims, of £112,033, which with the balance from the last half leaves £119,336 for appropriation. Of this, £IIO,OOO will be absorbed in the payment of a dividend of ten per cent per annum, and the balance is to be carried forward. As Mr Victor Braund has applied for leave to review Mr Justice Cooper's decision re refusing him leave to inspect the books of the Colonial Bank, the application will be taken before the Senior Judge (Mr Justice Edwards) and Mr Justice Cooper, sitting jointly, on Saturday.
