A REMARKABLE OPERATION.
WELLINGTON, March 14. A remarkable surgical operation was reaently performed at the Wellington Hospital. A young rran, named Harold Williams, employed at a foundry in the city, attempted to remove an electric wire whioh was in his way while working on top of a boiler. By some accident thiH wire was carrying a very heavy voltaere, and Williams received the full charge with terrible results. His right hand was so badly burned that it has since bad to be removed and the bottom of the right foot, then <in contact with the boiler plate, was burnt away. After admission to the Hospital, the soleless foot was strapped closely to the inside of the left thigh to which it gradually grew. Then another operation was necessary to out away the akin from the leg that was to sole the injured foot. The skin adhered to the foot, with the exception of a small patch, wnich was subsequently mended by grafting. The cause of tbe accident Bhould never have existed, and Williams has received £1,750 compensation from the New Zealand Eleittical Syndicate.
