The stook returns show that at tbe end of last year the State possessed 385,509,382 sheep, 1,984,450 cattle, 4,015,534 horses. 3 Compared with the nrevious. year sheep have increased by' 4,666,281, cattle 115,400, horses 15,618. , The chief inspector estimates that when the sheep returns are completed, it will be found that the number will be 40,000,000.
