LONDON MARKETS.

Hemp.—The market is firm. De-cember-January shipment old at £32 15b, shipment at £32 2s 6d. ~ Rabbits.—The market is dull and prices are unchanged. There are many compaints of bad grading of New South Wales recent consignments, many being seriously under weight, some oastomers refusing to buy. For bares there is a better trade, and prices are about Is 6d. Owing to the phctage of English sheep and fceef, prices are unchanged. Lambs, Canterbury Dunedin and Southland 4d, North Island, unchanged. River Plate sheep, heavy unchanged, light beef, fores hinds 2}£d. LONDON WOOL SAI^ES. Received January 29, 7.30 a.m. LONDON, January 28. 'lhe wool sales are animated, and prices are very Arm. Up to date i 16,039 bares have been catalogued, and ill. sold. The following were the average prices realised for the fleece portions of the clips named:— Creek (Christchurch) ll%d, Akitio 12% d, Napier, Motuotaria 13}{d. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following report from the High Commissioner, dated London, 27th instant:—"The mutton market is somewhat steadier. The average price for Canterbury mutton is per lb; for other and North Island mutton 3%d Der lb. The lamb market is overstocked and depressed, Australian lamb being in large supply. This season'b New Zealand lamb, 5d per lb (nominal); Australian lamb, id. There is
scarcely any demand for beef. The average price for bind-quarers of New Zealand is 3d per lb; fores, The butter market is un settled, it being unfavourably affected by large shipments arriving from Australia. The price of choicest New Zealand butter, to-day, is 113s per cvvt; Danish, 119s. The cheese market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker, high prices are restricting business. New Zealand cheeee is quoted at from 62s to 65s per cwt. The hemp market is active at higher prices in Bpot deliveries. The price of New Zealand hemp, 'good fair Wellington' grade on spot, to day, per ton, is £33; January to March shipments, £32. The cocksfoot seed market is firm with more enquiry at about last price. The wool market is active and firm. Kaari gum—Ordinary to, fair three-quarter scraped, £6 ss; fair half soraped, 85s; browu fair half to three-quarter brown pickings, common to good, 40s; bush, fair to good pale and amber scraped, £B. There is a, fair demand for better grade than for poorer, the former being limited."
