CAPTAIN SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS. Received January 9, 8.30 a.m. NEW YORK, January 8. | Captain Vensohauk, who was in command of the excursion steamer | General Slooum when she sank oif Hell Gate Rooks, has been sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for not j having fire drills aboard the steamer. (The General Slocum was procendiug up the East River to Long Island on June 15th, 1901, when a fire broke' out on board, the flames spreading witn great rapidity. Over five hundred of the thousand people on board perished. It was found that the life buoys on the steamer were not buoyant, and that the lifeboats were fastened down).
