WAIRARAPA ATHLETIC CLUB.
FIRST ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual meeting of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletio Club will be held on January 22 on the Park Uval. There are 20 events on the programme, including 100 Yards Maiden, 100 Yards Open Handicap (for Dr Butement's Gup), 220 Yards Open Handicap (for Mr Pownali's) cup, 410 Yards Ladies' Bracelet, 880 Yards Handicap (tor Mr Dupre's cup), One Mile Handicap (for Mr Chennells' cup), Two Mile Hondicap, One Mile Walk, 220 Yards Hurdles, 100 Yards Wellington Provincial Championship, 220 Yards Youths' Handicap, 100 Yards Boys' Handicap, High Jump, Long Jump, Putting the Shot, Throwing the Hammer, Teams' Half-Mile Relay Race, One Mile, One and A-Half Mile and Two Mile Bicycle Races. The first race will be run at one o'clock, and there will be an event every five minutes. In connection with the events a novel feature will be introduced—one of the latest American systems—viz., only five competitors will be allowed to run in each heat, aud each competitor must wear a sash with his number on the front and back. There will be lollie aud fruit stalls on the ground, and also afternoon tea. The Masterton Municipal Band will be in attendance during the day, and will play a special programme of music. Entries will close on January [lO with Messrs J. ;L. Conlan and J. Bradbury, at Masterton, and with Mr Stewart Robiuson, 21, Willis Street, Wellington.
