State Fire Insurance.

A SUCCESSFUL DEPARTMENT. Wellington, August 11. This morning the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald laid the foundation stone of the new State Fire Insurance offices at the comer of Lambton quay and Waring Taylor street The Minister said the cost of erecting the building would not be a charge on the Consolidated Fund of tho Public Works Fund, but would be defrayed out of profits made by the department since its inception 14 years ago. Tho total accumulated funds at the end of 1918 amounted to £214,000. The funds consisted entirely of those earned ill ordinary business operations at rates very much bolow thoso existing before the entry of the State Office into business.
