THE BOROUGH ELECTIONS.
Nominations for the office of Mayor close at the Town Hall at noon on Thursday and for the office of councillors at noon today (Wednesday). The present raembera of the Council appear to have filled their respective positions with satisfaction to the ratepayers, for we can discover no sign of discontent or burning anxiety to effect a change in the personnel of the Council.
Mr J. B. M'Kinlay has expressed his determination not to allow himself to be nominated for a second term in the mayoral chair, and up to the present we have not heard the name of an aspirant to the office divulged. It is to be regretted that so little interest or ambition is manifested by the burgesses as to allow this important office to practically go a-begging. For the position of councillors the majority of the present members have signified their intention of allowing themselves to be nominated, but from present indications it is scarcely likely that a poll will be necessary.
