A southern Tennis Association is accused of accepting seerefc com missions. A trophy winner made the discovery, when presenting his order for a trophy of a certain value, that the firm allowed a discount of 20 per cent, to the Tennis Association. He contended, therefore, that he did not receive the full face value of his order, and demanded and received payment of the 20 per cent, from the Association interested. The quarterly meeting of the Beaumont Presbyterian Mission Committee was held in the church on the 6th inst., when the following funds were paid to the missionary : — Raes Junction, £12 15s ; Beaumont, £10 lls 8d ; Evans Flat, £3 0s 9d ; Church Extension grant, £5 ; total, £31 7s sd. Our late townsman, Mr A. B. Haggitt, has been distinguishing himself. The Southland Times of Saturday reports that be has just harvested a quarter-acre patch of potatoes which yielded the satisfactory return of 4£ tons, or at the rate of 18 tons to the acre. D. C. M'lntyre, the Exhibition official who is concerned in the irregularities recently discovered in connection with the Exhibition, left for London by the Turakina on Friday. The Acting- Premier has since informed a reporter that the Government had decided to bring him back to answer some serious charges.

Miss Holland, who was to have commenced dancing classes in the Town Hall on Friday evening, had the misfortune to mistake the south express for the Lawrence train, and was thus unable to fulfil her engagement last Friday evening. The classes will, however, be commenced on Friday evening next.

THE residents (and more especially the young folk) of Wetherstones are to be treated to a magic lantern entertainment in the school to-morrow evening, the proceeds being devoted to extinguishing the debt on the harmonium used in connection with the Sunday school and Sunday afternoon services. The lantern will be manipulated by the Rev. Mr Allan and Mr Strachan, and two or three songs will add variety to the meeting.

The Otago Farmers' Co-operative stock sale, held at their Waitahuna sale yards on Tuesday, the 9th inst., was largely attended. Quite a number of buyers were present, and bidding for sheep, with the exception of a few pens of old ewes, was very brisk. Good prices were obtained for young sheep, and there was a decided improvement in the price of cattle. Following are the prices obtained:— Lambs, 13s, lls 9d, 10s Bd, 10s 3d, 10s Id, 9s 9d, and 8s 2d ; two and four- tooth wethers, 12s 8d ; ewes (full-mouthed), 7s to 128 ; old ewes, 2a 9d to 4s ; rams, 21s to 635 ; bullocks (2J to 3 years), £2 10s to £4 ; heifers, £4 to £4 ss ; cows (dry), £2 10s to £3 ;.*young cattle, £1 10s.
