MOUNT STUART ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held at Wain's Hotel, Glenore, on Monday. Present— Messrs Adam (chairman), Craig, Bryce, Hitchon, Ward, Forsyth, and Lowrey. Mr Ward, iv alluding co the minute of last meeting re the gate at Roxburgh Station, said that the gate was taken out of what was nothing loss than a bog hole, and placed on firm ground for the convenience of all parties going thab way. He thought ib was no inconvenience for Mr Palmer bo go bhree chains further on a sound road than to go through a bog hole. As {* matter of fact there was very little traffic on this particular road. Th<s Chairman said that according to Mr Ward's version there was very lifetle cause for complaint, but the matter would be looked into.
In regard to the fences overgrowing the road at the small bridge near Coombe's, Mr Bryce moved that the clerk be instructed to write to Mr Palmer and Mr Miller informing them something would have to be done to check the growth of the fences. — Seconded by Mr Ward and carried.
Mr Craig, speaking in referenca to Sutherland's dam at Nuggety, Said he understood that the agreement had nob yeb been returned to the Board. In his opinion they were only playing with the Beard.
Mr Hitchon said they were trying to avoid the Board in every manner possible.
The Chairman then moved that the clerk write to the Messrs Sutherland, asking them what was the cause of the delay in not forwarding the agreement to the Board. — Seconded by Mr Hitchon and carried.
Mr Craig produced a letter from Mr Miller, asking him to place before the Board the state of the road near his place at Manuka Greek. The Clerk said that this was in reference to M'Oorkindale's contracb, but he understood the work was being attended to aa the weabtwr permitted.
Mr Hitchon Baid he noticed tbab some people from Milton were taking gravel from the Board's bank ab Glenore, He thought that all the gravel there was required for the roads and moved that the clerk be instructed to summon all- parties taking gravel from that particular part of the river. — Seconded by Mr Lowrey and carried.
Mr Craig intimated that he would move at the next meeting of the Board to be held on September U, that a rate of |d in the 4> be levied on all rateable property in the Mount Stuart Eoad Board District, under the " Bating Aot, i 882," for the year beginning April 1, 1899, and ending March SI, 1900, payable in one sum on the 30th day of Soptember, 1899.
