TAPANUI DISTRICT.
The annual meeting of the Tapanui Licensing District Committee was held in the schoolhouse, Beaumont, yesterday at noon. Present: Messrs Jas. Bennet (Chairman), Jas. Sim, Wm. Gumming, and Jas. Mackay. Constable Parker (clerk "of the Committee) was in attendance, as was also Sergeant Conn. The following renewals for publicans' licenses were granted :—Railway Hotel, Kelso (Chas. Dunnet); Royal Hotel, Kelso (Wm. frrieve); Junction Hotel, Raes Junction (fsabella Rae) j Bridge Hotel, Beaumont (Harriet Nash.) The Chairman stated that the Committee were well satisfied with the way in which the several public houses in their district had been conducted during the past year, as very few drunken men had been seen loitering about as in previous years. Last year the Committee drew the attention of the police to this matter, and he was pleased to notice that their vigilance had had the desired effect. The report submitted by the Police was highly favourable to all the applicants for a renewal of licenses. This was all the business.
