OUR RAILWAYS.
During the four weeks ended 20 -h June the railway receipts amounted to L7B 794 and the expenditure to L 55 771. In the corresponding period last year the revenue was LSI 421 and the expenditure L 58.125. Of the rever u j , the North I-land lines contributed L 2 1637, aB agaiußt L 24 64^ ; and the Middle I-laad lines L 54.577, as agaiust I 56,775. The North Island lines absoibed L18,5^7. as against L 18,508. and thp Mi die Island lines L 37,203, aB against L 39 622 Calculated on a yearly average, the proportion of expenditure to f aminga was on rhß several lines for the respective periods of 1891 and 1890 aa folldws:-N>rth Island - Kawakawa. 77 05, 75 91; Whanjrarei, 99 49, 87.25; Auckland. 68 81, 6=5.13; N»pier-Tara uaki 67 56 6569; Wellington, 68.02, 65 40.
