GRAIN AND WOOL REPORT.

Messrs Samuel Oeb and Co., BtaJGEordstreet, DunediD, report for the week ending January 23rd as follows : — Wheat.— There is not the slightest improvement in the market for this cereal to report, there being an entire absence of business of any importance to transact. Despite the fact thai farmers are now anxious to quit their holdings at less than late rates millers still decline to do business for the present, so that we do not give quotations, which would be merely nominal. Oats. —As reported last week, the slight demand lately experienced has now subsided, so that last week's quotations are not now obtainable. Harvesting is now in operation up North, so that with the fine weather now being experienced no further improvement in prices may be expected. We quote prime milling up to 33 ; heavy feed up to 2s lOd. Barley. — There is no business lo report, nor likely to be until the new crop is fairly on the market, which will now be very soon. Chaff.— The market continues to be too well supplied, and a large quantity has had to be stored, the place being glutted with it. Potatoes.— The market this week has been better supplied, so that prioes are rather easier. Sidneys (local grown) are worth £8 to £10. Wool.— The second sales of the season were held last Thursday and Friday, and were very successful. A slight advance is to be reported in best qualities .of both merinos and fine half breds, while medium and inferior quali< ties commanded fully laßt saleB 1 rates. Good pieces were in especial request, and sold at exceptionally high price 3.
