I (From our own Correspondent.) I Dunedin, January 29fch. I At a meeting of R. G. Murray's creditors to-day, an offer of £3,250 was nude for the estate as a going concern, and the Assignee and supervisor were authorised to accept it if no better offer could be obtained. Several names are mentioned as candidates for Parliamentary honors in view of an early dissolution. The Bun. Thos. Dick, Captain Baldwin, and Mr H. S. Fish are spoken of as probable candidates for the city ; Admiral Scott for Roslyn ; and Mr Carncross for the Taieri. Mr Fred Fulton is said to be a probable candidate for South Ward in the City Council. Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cablegram, dated London, January 26th :—"lnferior: — "Inferior greasy j and seconds are about equal to the lowest 1 point of September sales. The market I shows no change for other descriptions." j A Wellington telegram states that the afternoon train yesterday to Maaterton met with an accident at Silveratream, four of the goods waggons leaving the rails and being considerably damaged. On board the train weie several horses engaged at the Wairarapa meeting, but they escaped without injury. The passengers also escaped uninjured. The Customs authorities have been directed to put in force the proclamation, dealing with the codlin moth pest. The importation of pears and apples will therefore be stopped. The moth is said to be particularly active in the North Island. Representatives from Gore, Mandeville, ' Riversdale, Wendon, Wendonside, Long^- ! ridge, and Lurasden wait on the Premier* at nine o'clock to-night, to nrge the' purchase by Government of the Waimea I railway. j Mr R. Specimens of gold, cinnabar, and marble have been received here from Nokouiai. '■ The gold is the result of one dishful from Hunter and Oo's shaft, and weighs ldwt 17gr, Cinnabar and marble were met with. About a dozen comp-inies are now at work in the district. The Triumph Company have «ot a pulsometer at work ' to cope with the water, and intend to put on a double shift of workmen. Timabu, J anuary 28th. An important case — Miles, Archer and Co. v. Hoare and wife — was decided in the Supreme Court to-day before Mr Justice Johnston and a special jury. In a previous action it was decided that the personal property of the female defendaut was security for advances made by plaintiffs, but a new trial was granted to see whether the real property could be placed on the same basis. To-day Mr Justice Johnston ruled that real property could be made liable without being specified in writing, ' and in this instance, the jury returned a verdict that both the real and personal property of the female defendant were liable. A verdict was accordingly given for the plain titt's, with costs on tho highest scale.

(JRewter's Special.) Melbourne, January 27th. At Oobnrg yesterday a mother and her three daughters combined to murder a vAiufer sister, which they did by nearly levering her head from the body. The daughters afterwards attacked each other, and all were more or leas severely wounded. One of them is in an extremely critical state. Ministerial Statement was made in the Legislative Asaembly to-day. It proposes that considerable amendments shall be made in Act, and announces that the Gowerrirapnt intend, to; introduce a scheme of equitable taxation to meet the deficiency in the revenue. The Financial Statement will be brought down on 4th February. ,
