(From ov/r own Corre&pondmt.) Dunedin, September 22nd. The San Francisco mail is expected to arrive here to-morrow morning. The Hutt tarring case came on at Wellington again to-day, and all the evidence for the prosecution was taken. Mr Gillon (of the " Post") declined to give evidence. A regular scene took place between the Colonial Secretary (Mr Buckley) and Mr Travera. The latter called the former a vagabond, and Mr Buckley retaliated witb. "fellow," and dared him to repeat the language outside, j saying that if it were not for respect to i the Court he would have spoken to him in a manner as such a fellow deserved. A case was heard in the Supreme Court in which damages were sought for delivery of goods at Port Chalmers instead of Dunedin, when bill of lading was made out to Port of Dunedin. His Honor considered delivery at Port Chalmers was sufficient discharge of the bill of lading. Baiclutha, September 22nd. A dwelling-house of three rooms belonging to Mr Beaton Marr, a contractor, was with its contents burned down at three o'clock this morning. Marr was reading a newspaper in bed, with a candle on a chair, and fell asleep. It is supposed that the candle ignited the paper and then the curtains. By the time he got out his wife and family the building had caught. The building was insured for £150 and the furniture for £100 in the National Office. (Per Press Association.) Timaru, September 21st. John Patrick, a farmer at Eakuhu, met with a very painful accident on Saturday last. He was attending to one of his horses when the animal kicked cut, striking him fair between the eyes, and completely smashing his nost. He wai attended, to by Dr Fiah, and now lies in 1 a very precarious condition. New Plymouth, September 21st. The wife of an engineer (Mr Wray) at the waterworks, in dipping a bucket into the reservoir at noon to-day, slipped in and was drowned. Hawera, September 21sfc. At the Police Court this morning an old woman named Chambers was charged with attempting to commit suicide on Friday last by taking poison. It appears she went to a chemist for a packet of rough on rats, but as he had none in stock she took Battle's vermin killer. About two hours afterwards her husband gave the alarm, and as medical aid wai called in fatal consequences were averted. Accused was remanded till Wednesday. Auckland, September 20th. John Latnont, an elderly man, committed suicide by drowning himself in the Waikato River, Cambridge, yesterday. The deceased appears to have taken off his clothing, carefully folded it, and walked into the river. He left a letter at his house, bidding good-bye to his friends, naming his executor, and stating that particulars of his family could be got from his brother at Christchurch.
