ROXBURGH MUNICIPAL MATTERS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,— Your Roxburgh correspondent ha» indulged in tome strictures on the " Mt. Benger Mail " iv iti outspoken attitude on muni ipal affairs. Without in any way courting a controversy on the question, permit me to state that I hare heard man/ expressions of approval of the efforts of the " Mail " to put Corporation busineis in a fair way of doing ; and the conductor is apparently not one of those weak-minded individuals who are to be intimidated by the threats of the wrathful ones. Let the work be done fairly, and I do not think the local paper would interfere with the actions of our public men. Your correspondent's championship of hi* friend, Mr Smith, is unwarranted, and hU remarks about proposer and seconder are not called for. Ihe proposers of both candidates for the East Ward (one of whom was disqualified) were all good men, and io make an exposition of one ai having more standing than another was altogether unnecessary in the remarks of your correspondent. — I am, &c, Ratepayer.
