THE RABBITER.

{Original.) As rambling on the hills alone In search of bunny's carcase, I sometimes groan and truly own, This raco for life's a hard race. Much I ponder as I wander 'Mong tussock, scrub, and bracken, In solitude, in "moony l ' mood, Almost by self forsaken. I like the fun when with my guv I trip up bunny daily, And Dash, my dog, the cunning rogue, Bounds to me with him gaily. Hiajacket then I Btrip off. When The piece is charged and ready, Away he gets, another sets, Head, foot, and tail point "steady. 1 ' But, oh ! this sport —it comes far short Of what I used to revel in ; 'Tis tame compared to what I've shared, And played the very devil in ! I make my moan — these days are gone, They had their share of sorrow ; I lonely chew reflection's cud, And dread each coming morrow. Could I but see what's in store for me, Through some Alladdin optics, I'd take good guard and be prepared To plivy Dame Fortune odd tricks. Through life- time crossed and tempost-tOBSed Fate orders, we must follow ; She points her wand, and the last sand Of grief we c'en must swallow. "Care" half-a-grain, an ounce of "pain," If I must driuk her potion ; I'll rhyme and write the live-long night An antidote and lotion ; Then como, my Muse, and lot us choso The primrose path of fiction, On Faucy's wiug we'll mount and sing, And laugh at Fate's prescription.
