A KNOTTY POINT.

A London police magistrate has been asked to decide a knotty point between two young ladies employed at a feather trimmers. The fair plaintiff asked the crael defendant to cut off a little of her hair. Either in as| ir't of exuberant fun or of misapplied enthusiasm, the defendant cut the hair very close. ' Tinder ordinary circumstances this would have resolved itself into a question of taste. In the present case it evoked a question of propriety. It appears that proprietors regard younsr lady assistants with short hair as "fast." Hence the cropped fair one apprehended she would lose her situation and be unable to gain another appointment until such time as her shorn locks should have regained their natural luxuriance. "With the wisdom of a Daniel come to judgment, the worthy magistrate has shifted the burden of the responsibility from his shoulders by declaring that although it may be an assault for a person to cut off a larger quantity of hair than she is asked to, yet the case is one which might be more properly tried in the County Court as an action for damages rather than as a police case.
