TUAPEKA COUNTY JOCKEY CLUB'S RACES.

The above Club's second annual meeting promises, if the weather continues favorable, to be in every respect a thorough success. Most of the horses engaged for the meeting have put in an appearance, and it is understood the others — with one or two exceptions — will reach here to day. So far, very little work, beyond walking exercise, has been done by auy of the horses. Some, of the local owners have given their nags an occasional spin ; but none of the " cracks" have yet been sent. Lately the course has not been in very good order, but the Committee was busy yesterday afternoon in getting some of the holes and ruts filled in and the track otherwise improved. Very little wagering has been done, but it is expected that a goodly sum will pass through the totalisator each day. The Club have been successful in inducing the railway authorities to issue Saturday " return-tickets on the DunedinClintou line (including branches) from the 21st, available until the 24th instant.

. The following "tips" have been handed to us by "Nimrod," who mentions that he has been placed at some disadvantage through not seeing the principal horses at work: — District Handicap : Blackboy, 1 ; Shamrock, 2 ; Lady Oamden, 3. Handicap Trot : Oliver, 1 ; Boojum, 2 ; Dolly, 3. Lawrence Handicap : Garibaldi, 1; Sir Audley, 2; Ouida, 3. Hurdle Race : Trapper, 1 ; Gang Awa', 2. As the entries do not close until this evening for the Maiden Plate and Novel Handicap, I cannot speak with certainty as to the likely starters. The Lawrence Handioap should be a good race, and the Trot ought to excite considerable merest owing to the number of local horses engaged. Acceptances for the subjoined events were received by the Club last evening :—: —

District Handicap. — Blackboy, Shamrock, Kuriw.io, and Lady Camden (lale No Grood.) . Handicap Time Tbot. — Oliver, Charlie, Boojura, Grasshopper, Dolly, Cockey, Camelia, Nellie, No Use, Maud S (late Slug), Chance, Freedom and Tommy.

La. whence Handicap.— Foul Play (late Coburg), Young Barwon, Trapper, Molly Bawn, Ouida; Sir Audley, Oaslinetle Filly, Garibaldi and Lady Camden (late No Good.) Httbdle Race. — Tiapper, G-ang Awa', Bolhwell (late Scotch Jock), Q-u ribald i, Tui, Edelicucess, and Ada.
