Dtjhedin, April 4th. At Ashburton races to-day, D. O'Brien's Rubina won the Grand-stand Handicap, and Barbary walked over for the Steeplechase. Slater, a farmer at Pukeuri, near, Oamaru, has been, found dead on the road, having evidently fallen from his horse. At a meeting of Haydon's creditors, it was decided to ask him to file his schedule, with the view of testing the validity of a bill of sale, under which the mortgagees have taken possession. The Trades and. Labor Council meet to-night to consider the. reply of the Minister of Lands in re {the Waikouaiti dummyism cases. The reply has not yet been published, but it is not of an important nature. Unless £600 more can be' raised by the 9th April, the mortgagees of St. Matthew's Church intend to foreclose, as times are very depressed. There is much doubt whether the money will come in, and the Church will, therefore, probably be in the market. . Considerable interest is felt as to the line the Medical Association will take at the meeting to-night, regarding* Dr Parry's case. The generally expressed^opinion is that the sentence was extremely light. The big dredge has made good headway on the bar this last month, having lifted 3000 tons more than during the preceding five months. ~ . (Per Press Association.) Invercargill, March 3rd. A magisterial inquiry was held at Riverton yesterday into the death, at Wray's Bush, of Jane Mildenhall, who had been attended during her confinement by Mrs Sarah Jane Flett. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate committed the latter for trial on a charge of manslaughter. (Rente/ 8 Special.) Stdnby, April 3rd. All the British men-of-war in port will fire thirty guns on Saturday next, and Monday will be observed as a day of general mourning for the death of Prince Leopold.-
