TOKOMAIRIRO RACES.
First Day.
(Front our own, Correspondent.) The first day's racing under the auspices of the newly-formed Jockey Club took place in Mr Carson's paddock near Milton on Thursday. The weather was all that could be desired. The attendance was very good, especially at this season of the year, when the farmers are so busily engaged in the harvest-field. It is computed that there were close on 1000 people on the ground. The horses owned by residents of Tuapeka County did not show up very prominently in any of the events : Edaluciss was nowhere in the Maiden Plate ; Nelly did notshowupin the trot; Blackboy was outpaced in the Tokomairiro Handicap; and neither Marksman nor Sir William gave Sir Audley (formerly owned by Mr JX H. Mervyn, but now the property of Mr M. M'Laren) much trouble in the Novel Race. I'he entries -for all of the events
were very good, and the racing on the whole was above the average of country meetings.
