Soap-bubble parties are now tbe rage, so the fashion papers Bay. The " rage " comes in when the father of the family sita down to his evening smoke and finds his favourite pipe sodden with water and his mouth full of soap and bad language. G. A. Sala, in a recent periodical, rakes up s>mething fresh about "Uncle Tom's Cabin." When Mr and Mrs Stowe took it to the publisher, they only asked £10 for it, but he would not give that. So they arranged to get 10 per cent, of the proceeds of sales. When the publisher gave them the first cheque of £2,000 they did not know what to do with it, neither of them having ever seen a cheque. Not long after there came another cheque of £2,0J0. By that time the gloss of their ignorance was worn off.
