BHIDOES OVEE THE CHEEKS IN THB COUNTY. The Engineer reported on this subject as follows : — Having in view the bridging of several creeks in the County, and taking into consideration the perishable nature of the native timber, it occurs to me to suggest where stone is abundant, which is the case in most parts of the County, stone and iron should form the essentials of every bridge ; maleable iron girders can be imported at a reasonable rate at present, especially if a number of County Councils could be induced, to join in the order. Iron girders landed here will cost about 15 per cent more than the native timber beams. — 1 have, &c., Wm. Smaill. The Council passed the following motion on the above : — " That the Engineer make an inspection of the streams throughout the County that require bridging, and furnish an estimate to the Council of the same, with a view of sending Home for iron girders."
