MEMORIAL PLOT.

Tribute to Late Mr J. M’Combs. A simple but very effective means of perpetuating the memory of the late Mr James M’Combs M.P., who was a member of the Christchurch City Council, has been adopted. Some years ago the council acquired an acre of land adjoining Woolston Park, and facing Richardson Terrace and it is suggested that this area, which is unsuitable for incorporation in the playing area of the park, should be planted with native subjects, particularly plants of special garden merit that are indigenous to the Port Hills, the Chatham Islands and the Province of Canterbury, and dedicated to the memory of the late Mr M’Combs. Mr M’Combs at different periods of his office as a councillor showed great interest in the Woolston district and, for several years, represented the Lyttelton electorate, of which the Woolston district is part, in Parliament.
