PRIESTS MUST LEAVE MEXICAN STATE. Roman Catholics Persecuted. GOVERNOR’S ANTI RELIGIOUS OUTBURST. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 22, 12.40 p.m) NOGALES (Arizona). May 21. All the Roman Catholic churches in Sonora, a State of Mexico, were closed to-day bv order of the Governor, Rodolfo Elias Calles. as the culmination of three State circulars to educators, civic officials and executive heads, requesting that they express their anti-fanatical views respecting religion. Many officials resigned, it was said, as a consequence of this State request. Sonora Catholics claim that the Government closure or their churches is an expression of Governor Calles s antireligious view’s. Additional instructions from the State Government stated that priests must leave the State in less than twelve hours.
