WAR CANOE FOR MUSEUM.

Lying on the ground at Last Bay. Queen Charlotte Sound, is an old Maori canoe which once formed part of the fleet led by Te Rauparaha when he made his famous attack on Kaia-1 pohia one hundred years ago, and slaughtered the Ngaitahu tribe. After being exposed to the weather for many years, a portion of this valuable relic of one of the most dramatic episodes in the Maori history, of the South Island has been secured for the Canterbury Museum, and is expected to arrive in Christchurch within the next few j days.
