“STILL GOING STRONG.”
Accused and Magistrate Exchange Remarks. “ When you were last here you were polite enough to ask God to strike me dead. Well, I am still here and going strong, you see,” said Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., when Anthony Shannon answered a charge of drunkenness in the Police Court this morning. It was the accused’s fourth offence in six months. “Yes,” said accused, “and getting enough to buy yourself a few cigarettes.” ** You’ll get three months,” said Mr Mosley. Accused, a labourer, sixty years cf age, made some further remarks. “ I only had two beers, and, sure to God, a man can do that, can’t he? I have trained hundreds of men in the army,” said accused, when the charge was laid against him. “ I have just come out after doing three months, and I wasn’t doing any harm to anyone.” The Magistrate fulfilled his threat and sent Shannon to gaol for three months.
