“SMILING THROUGH.”

“ Smiling Through,” the hauntinglv delightful romantic drama, starring Norma Shearer and Fredric March, began a return season at the Grand Theatre on Saturday. Both of the principals give wonderful characterisations—Norma Shearer in the dual role of Moonyeen and Kathleen, and Fredric March as the unhappy suitor. The laurel for the most outstanding portrayal must go to Leslie Howard, however, for his brilliant work as Sir John Cartaret, the lover of Moonyeen and guardian of Kathleen. Judging by the reception accorded the film on Saturday, “ Smiling Through ” should have a good season. Two cartoons, newsreels, and a comedy are included in a good supporting programme.
